I saw this film almost exactly 7 days ago. The line was around the entire building and there were a total of 500 people in line to see the midnight showing on opening night (7/17/2008) although technically it was 7/18/2008 because the clock did strike midnight before the film started. For starters they show a good amount of the upcoming previews including the new Terminator film starring Bale (the guy playing Batman.) Keanu is in some new movie about aliens. He plays an alien, what a stretch right? Back to the film.
Gotham City is safe because of The Batman. Scarecrow makes a brief appearance in the first few minutes of the film. Batman imitators are popping up to help keep the city safe as well. The film starts with the Joker’s gang robbing a bank in broad daylight. Great opening. So the underworld is up in arms about how Batman is ruining their business. The guy who played Spawn is one of Gotham’s mob bosses who is very upset. The Joker takes it upon himself to rid Gotham of The Batman.
I really don’t want to ruin this film for you because it is that good so I’m just going to talk about the acting, special effects, and make up. The Joker is played brilliantly. This isn’t your Jack Nicholsen Joker who pretends to be crazy but in the end he doesn’t want to die. This Joker doesn’t care about anything except doing whatever the hell he wants. He doesn’t care about dying, he doesn’t care about money, he simply doesn’t care. It’s great and much closer to The Joker of the comic franchise.
Batman is played brilliantly as well. It’s good to see less focus on costumes (Batman and Robin) and more focus on the story. The Batman has gadgets that are realistic to life.
When it comes to make up wait a little bit into the movie.
