Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Starring Harrison Ford, Shia Lebeaf. Rated PG-13

Well this week has been catch up time for me on all the films I missed while in theatres. I tried to see this when it first came out but the line was outrageous and I wound up skipping it.
Indy is back and the enemies are now the bloody communists. There is a lot of red scare undertones to the film as it has been updated to go along with Ford’s age. Ford and Lebeaf must discover the secret of the crystal skull while at the same time evading their would be captures the red army. For whatever reason the main bad guy commie is obsessed with mind control. Something about wanting to get into the heads of the Americans and control them into thinking what she wants them to think (similar to the old red scare films such as The Pod People, a fear of the communists taking over people’s free will.) There is a lot of action as well as humor in this film and Ford and Lebeaf work well together. Unfortunately there is a lot of weird space sci fi stuff involved as well. For you see the “crystal skull” is not of this world. They talk a lot about “creatures from another world” and dive into the whole theory of the pyramids being built by an alien race. If you can overcome this, or if you believe it, then it won’t bother you that much. A lot of good Indiana Jones adventures throughout the film and him getting himself both into and out of a lot of trouble.
Pros: Great on screen chemistry between the two lead actors, humor
Cons: The whole alien thing
Verdict: 8.5 / 10 Definately worth watching if not adding to your collection

If you order the above movie, we get a commission. As of 11/25, no orders, no commissions
