Eagle Eye

Rated PG13, 118 minutes long. Starring Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Michael Chiklis, and Billy Bob Thornton. Do you remember The Matrix? Of course you do. Remember how the whole movie was all about the machines becoming too smart for their own good and taking over the planet? Well Eagle Eye falls into a similar category only it’s set in present day.

Shia’s character Jerry Shaw is a copy manager who is “activated” by some random woman for a job he has to do. Same with Monaghan’s character Rachel. You see in the days of terrorism the US government needs top secret programs that monitor every move you do and can set you into action when the time becomes necessary for you to do your part to protect the United States government. So the two basically wander around on random tasks set to them by this unknown woman who calls them on the phone and tells them what to do. If they resist they will be terminated.

The special effects in this film are great and Shia’s acting is at par with Transformers. The storyline is pretty good but once it starts getting into the whole machines can think on their own thing (that could be a spoiler for you but oh well) it stops getting original and just starts jumping onto the bandwagon of “technology is bad.” This seems to be a new genre in film as we’ve moved away from the Red Scare zombie flicks. Overall the acting is impressive and the action is solid.

Pros: Action, acting

Cons: Tired of super computers

Verdict: 7.5/10 go see it
