Captain America Gets Its Director

Joe Johnston (Jumanji, Jurassic Park III) has signed on to direct Marvels comic book adaptation of Captain America. “The First Avenger: Captain America” is set to be released May 6th, 2011 and has yet to have been announced who will star as the legendary superhero. Captain America is one of the many superheroes slated to build up the Marvel superteam The Avengers. The Avengers includes not only Captain America but Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor. In July of 2011 Marvel is releasing its own Avengers movie, no telling whether they’re going to use the same actors from their previous films to portray the superheroes in that film. ”The First Avenger: Captain America” follows Steve Rogers, a sick man who during WWII undergoes experimental testing which turns him into a super soldier. Joe Johnston is a great choice as a director for this film, considering he has past experience portraying a superhero with his 1991 film “The Rocketeer”. His other credits include “Honey I Shrunk the Kids”, “The Pagemaster”, “Hildago”, and “October Sky”. His latest film is the remake of the horror classic “The Wolfman”, which stars Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins and is coming out April of 2009.

Captain America I predict will be just as big as “Iron Man” or even “Spider Man”, especially if the right person is chosen for the job. I dont know anything about the character so I cant even begin to think who would be right for the role. Just to throw this out there I would probably have to pick probably Matt Damon as my choice, only because he hasn’t played a superhero, but we all know he can kick ass from the Jason Bourne films. One thing that is certain is that Marvel should do whatever it takes to keep the same actors playing there roles for the Avengers movie, even if they have to push the release date. How awesome would it be to have Robert Downey Jr. and Edward Norton playing Iron Man and the Hulk in the Avengers film?
