In 1995, Terry Gilliam gave us probably one of the best sci-fi movies ever brought to the screen. “12 Monkeys” if you dont know stars Bruce Willis, Madeline Stowe, and Brad Pitt. The beginning takes place in 2035 and the only surviving humans of a disease that is in the air live beneath the surface of the Earth. Willis is James Cole, a prisoner who keeps having a disturbing dream of something he witnessed when he was a child. Now a prisoner, he has been selected to go back in time only to gather information to find a cure to the virus that was believed released in 1996 by the army of the 12 monkeys.
This movie is quite the little mind fuck. Willis turns over probably one of his best performances to date, but Pitt is the one who really steals the show as a nutcase who Willis meets up with during the film. Personally I think this has to be some of Gilliams most fantastic work to date. If you are not familiar with Terry Gilliam, he was part of the Monty Python team and is considered a complete visionary. His work includes “Time Bandits”, “Brazil”, “The Fisher King”, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”. So if you enjoy “12 Monkeys”, I suggest checking out some more of his work.
If you order the above movie, we get a commission. As of 11/25, no orders, no commissions
Brad Pitt is a consumate actor and a devoted father. It’s great to see such high profile people give back to the world by giving children that would otherwise have a less priveleged life.
